10 Benefits of Using Telehealth Services in 2023

Reading Time: 5 minutes

People started using telehealth services a lot more, especially after Covid-19 swept the world. It looks like it is here to stay.

Should you consider using it in the future? Here are some of the benefits of using telehealth services in 2023 … and beyond.

You Avoid The Waiting Room

This is one of the best parts of telehealth. You get to sit in the comfort of your own home or office while you wait for the medical professional to talk to you. That reduces a lot of stress and potential sickness, sine you’re not going to possibly be breathing in other people’s germs while you sit in the waiting room.

You will also save on things like gas, since you won’t have to drive to the doctor, or on public transportation if you don’t have a car. There won’t be any need to try to find parking, which is another source of stress.

Your Doctor Can See You In Your Home Environment

Another benefit of seeing your doctor online is that they can see what is going on around you. Suppose that you have an allergy that makes you constantly sneeze  – they may see something in your home that they figure is the cause of that reaction.

You will also be more relaxed when you are home, which means that you may get to avoid what is known as the “White Coat Yips”, which can mean that things like your blood pressure can go up just because you’re nervous about being in the exam room.

You Save on Things Like Child Care

It can be hard to be a single parent, especially when you are working at an office. Oftentimes, you have to rely on someone to watch your young child. Family can help out but they can also be limited in their time. This can make for some hard decisions.

That is not the case when you do telehealth. You can be at home with your child while you are waiting for the televisit to start. That is also a load of stress off of your back.

You Can See A Specialist Faster

There are times when it seems like the waiting list to see a specialist can be for months. That can be a problem if you are facing a time sensitive condition. Telehealth can open the door for you.

By having a telehealth visit with a certain specialist, you get it out there that you are suffering from this. They may be able to prescribe something or start a treatment for you earlier than if you waited to see them in person. It could be cheaper for you, too.

You Can See A Doctor Without Any Health Insurance

Certain circumstances in life might keep you from being able to get health insurance. That shouldn’t prevent you from seeing a doctor. This is where telehealth can play a biga part.

There are telehealth companies out there that accept cash right away, which allows you to bypass both health insurance and referrals. You will get to show your condition to a doctor and not be worried about insurance.

You Can See a Doctor Even If You Are in a Rural Area

Proximity often is a big problem for those who live in rural areas. There can be many miles between your home and a doctor’s office.  Telehealth services get to bridge that gap.

Of course, the main requirement is that you have to have internet service, so if you are not within range, you would be out of luck. If you are in a rural area and you can read this, though, you are fine.

You Can Get Medical Care Even If You Are in an Inner City

Another population that is underserved is those who live in urban areas where they are living in poverty conditions. They are usually known as Inner-city people. It can be hard for them to get treatment.

That is where telehealth can change the situation.  Doctors will be able to talk to these people and possibly diagnose certain conditions. This way, they can start their treatments faster.

You Can Talk To Someone in the Middle of the Night

Your baby or child woke up crying and it is obvious that there is something wrong. You could go to the emergency room, but exposing them to a waiting room full of potentially sick people could endanger the baby even more.

Telehealth removes that problem for both babies and adults as well. This was not a possibility in the not so distant past. Now you can talk to a on-call doctor while in your pajamas and even get a prescription if the situation calls for it.

You Can Talk to a Psychiatrist, Too

Not all conditions are physical ones. People need to watch their mental health, and talking to a therapist is one excellent way to do that. Telehealth removes the barrier of worrying about talking face to face for an extended amount of time.

This can be an excellent option for people who have all kinds of mental conditions and income levels. They will be able to find ways to cope with what they are feeling. Telehealth services give them options that they may not have had before.

There are several ways that you can use this – if you find yourself in an emergency psychiatric situation, if you are highly anxious, or if you are needing general support. Telehealth services can be an excellent lifeline for you in this regard. There are a lot of resources available for you.

You Can Get Physical Therapy Supervision

You might have surgery or have suffered an injury that requires you to have physical therapy. It might be hard for you to get to the physical therapy center, though, and your physical therapist might not be able to make house calls. That is where telehealth services can come into the picture.

A physical therapist can monitor how you do your exercises – this requires you to be at least mobile enough to do that. If you need manual help, you are going to have to go there. At least this gives you an option that you might not have had in the past.

There are a lot of fields that can benefit from this, including pediatricians, general practitioners, mental health specialists, and dermatologists, just to name a few. You can find a telehealth provider by looking on the internet and keying in your zip code as well.

As you can see, there are a lot of benefits to using telehealth services in 2023 and beyond. Phone cameras can give excellent imagery for the doctor to see any particular thing that you want them to look at. The only drawbacks is that the doctor can’t have you do things like blood tests, urine samples, or for them to be able to take your blood pressure.

There are things you can get to help mitigate these problems, like a finger clip BP monitor. You also may have to navigate complex insurance paperwork to get reimbursed. Still, the future is bright for the field and as the years go by and the technology continues to improve, this may become even more of a staple for medicine.
