Zumba is an aerobic fitness program that combines Latin-inspired and international music with dance moves to improve cardiovascular fitness. It features high- and low-intensity intervals, alternating fast and slow rhythms and highly choreographed movements. The Latin-inspired dance moves include salsa, merengue, reggaeton and cumbia. Zumba promotes heart health, improves balance, coordination, flexibility, agility, strength and relieves stress. The classes are typically 45-60 minutes and are led by a Zumba-certified instructor. There are several types of Zumba programs, which include Aqua Zumba (for those with lower body injuries or a need for low-impact exercise); Zumba Gold (performed at a lower intensity for an older audience); Zumba Kids (for kids age 7-11 years old); Zumba Kids Jr. (for 4-6 year olds); Zumba Step (has an added aerobic step to increase the intensity of the workout and add more leg-strengthening moves); Zumbini (for 0-3 year olds); Strong by Zumba (a high-intensity bodyweight training workout where exercises such as push-ups, squats, burpees, and lunges are choreographed to the beat of the music); Zumba Gold-Toning (a lower intensity level designed for an older audience); Zumba In the Circuit (alternating between Zumba dance moves and strength training exercises); Zumba Sentao (uses a chair as a "dance partner" to focus on core strength); Zumba Toning (uses Zumba Toning Sticks or light weights to add strength training). The Zumba tagline is “Ditch the Workout, Join the Party”, requiring no prior dancing skills and emphasizes having a fun time.
