What is mindfulness?
Mindfulness is paying attention in a particular way, on purpose, without judgement. It's the process of witnessing your thoughts, feelings and actions without getting sucked up into the story. For example, when feeling anxious, being able to say "I am experiencing this anxiety and my body is feeling tension in the shoulders. I love and accept myself and invite peace in". Compared to "I am anxious, I can't handle this stress, I am tight in my shoulders".
Why do you seem so different than other therapists?
I began my counseling practice with an intrinsic desire and passion to help people be their very best, introducing practices and skills that help them reach their goals. We have to do something different in order to get something different. If we keep doing what we've been doing, we will continue to get what we've been getting. After my coach training, I realized I was using many coaching skills in my counseling with clients. It is what I find to be effective in reaching goals, moving forward, appreciating who we are as we continue to grow and live fully.
How long does it take to feel and experience real change?
The more we practice, the stronger we get. When we decide we want to get physically fit, after one visit to the gym, it's unlikely we will see results. Similar with meditation. One 5 minute practice is unlikely to give lasting results. I'm going for lasting sustainable change, which means creating a new lifestyle that supports who we want to be. Which means practice and consistency is required. This work takes discipline and dedication. So what's the timeline? You decide what you want to put in, and the results will be a reflection of your efforts.
