The most honest answer to that question is that psychotherapy is a unique experience for each person and her or his therapist. What I believe occurs in effective psychotherapy is that two people meet regularly, usually once or twice a week, and discuss what the client believes to be a problem in her or his life as honestly as they can. I believe that an effective psychotherapist is accepting, non-judgmental, curious, and interested in a client’s life. He (or She) brings his training, own life experiences and humanity.
